Self-Portraits

We have started our Self-Portrait unit by talking about the importance of Proportion. Where are your eyes, nose, mouth and ears on your face. Did you know your eyes are halfway down? And your ears are about as long as your nose? Your face breaks down into many halves, your eyes are halfway down your face, the tip of your nose is halfway between your eyes and chin and your mouth is halfway from your nose to your chin.
As practice we used crayons and started with an oval and drew each halfway line to know where all the parts go. Our next step was to do the same thing on a larger scale and in lightly drawn pencil so that the lines can be erased.

Art Words: Portrait, Self-Portrait & Proportion

Before adding the mouth to our Self-Portraits we watched this quick clip of faces showing a variety of emotions and talked about how your mouth changes to show different feelings.

FInished Sunsets

We mixed the Primary Colors to make the Secondary Colors and used them to paint the layers of our Sunsets. We then used black paper to cut out Silhouettes of trees and other shapes for our finished Sunsets.
